My plan is to wait for volatility to die down. If I miss a bit of gains, that's OK. And honestly, it probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense for people our age to try to time the market since our retirement horizon is so far off. However, I did it because I viewed it as an opportunity to ramp up my retirement savings, since I feel like I'm a little bit behind where I should be at this stage in life.

I was fortunate to have timed the exit properly. In theory, if I buy back in at any point lower than my exit, I've made money. But my gut tells me we are still in for a lot of pain. So I'm going to wait it out for now.

With no virus vaccine on the immediate horizon, and multiple questions about immunity, I expect shutdowns and business restrictions to drag out, because people seem to be terrified. I don't really agree with everything that's being done at this point, but that's beside the point. I think the economic devastation is real and is eventually going to "pop" the inflated stock market. As we enter the second half of the year, I fear we'll see large companies go bankrupt or beg for bailouts (thinking airlines or oil companies). I hope I'm wrong, because if that happens, much more than retirement account balances will be in jeopardy. But that's just my instinct at this point. I'm anything but an investment guru, so my opinion isn't worth squat.
